Your photos

What can you mend?

Tears, creases, cracks, scratches, dust, stains, mould spots and fading, on black and white, sepia and colour prints. We can add colour to black and white photos too, if you'd like it.

What can't be mended?

We can't put back what isn't there: a face torn away or a corner missing is filled in plainly from its surroundings, never with a new face. Very blurred photos stay soft, because we don't invent detail.

How do I photograph an old print?

Lay it flat on a table, away from the window, tilt it slightly away from the light and fill the frame. Your phone's own camera is ideal. A scan works too. See it mended.

Can I upload a scan or a photo from my computer?

Yes. JPEG, PNG, WebP and HEIC files up to 25 MB all work, and you can drag and drop on a computer.

Can I mend a photo of a group?

Yes. With more than four faces we keep the small faces from your original, cleaned up, and the page tells you while you look at the preview.

Do you mend photos for passports or ID?

No. Ages Ago is for family photos for your own use, never for passports, ID or official documents.

Faces and colour

Will the faces stay the same?

That's our promise. We compare every face in the mended version with your original, and if one changes we keep your original face, cleaned, and only add colour. How we mend a photo.

Are the colours accurate?

Colour is our best guess at how the photo looked on the day. Skin, clothes and backgrounds get natural, muted colours of the period. If you'd like it warmer or cooler, use Try again.

Who mends my photo?

An AI image model does the mending, following our fixed instructions. No person retouches photos, and we don't take requests to change what's in a photo, such as adding or removing someone.

What if it doesn't look like them?

Within 14 days of keeping a photo, press "It doesn't look like them" on your order page and we'll make a stricter version free. You see exactly the picture you are buying in your preview, and a blurry or damaged original can only be improved so far, so there are no refunds or credits for how a face looks.

Is there a watermark?

The free preview has one. The photo you keep doesn't. The image model's maker adds an invisible SynthID mark to images it makes, which you won't see.

Paying and credits

How much does it cost?

The preview is free. Keeping a photo costs £5.99. Packs: 3 photos £12.99, 5 photos £17.99, 15 photos £34.99. See every price.

Do credits expire?

Credits from a pack last 12 months from the day you buy it, and we email you a month before any unused ones expire. One credit keeps one photo, on any device once you've signed in.

Can I get a refund for credits I haven't used?

Yes, within 14 days of buying a pack: press Refund unused credits on your account page and you get the pack's price back, less one credit's value for each credit used. After that, they last 12 months from the day you bought the pack.

Is it a subscription?

No. You pay for a photo or a pack once, and nothing renews.

What do I get when I keep a photo?

The full-size file (3840 pixels on the long side, enlarged for printing), before-and-after pictures in square and upright shapes, and an 8-second reveal clip to share.

Why do I lose my right to cancel?

Because your download starts straight away. You tick a box to ask for that at the Keep step, and your order email confirms it.
